2013 Migration Russian River Valley Chardonnay Searby Vineyard
Sold Out
Migration is dedicated to crafting Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from the finest cool-climate winegrowing regions to create wines that highlight lush fruit, bright acidity and impeccably balanced oak. Planted in 1972, Searby is one of the Russian River Valley’s great hillside vineyards. This wine was made from a special block of Searby’s coveted old-vine Rued clone Chardonnay. Grown in sandy loam soils, these dry-farmed vines produce very small crops of intensely aromatic Chardonnay. The result is a fresh and focused wine that balances citrus, passion fruit, lemon blossom and lychee notes, with crisp, elegant acidity.

Winemaker Notes
Once again, Searby yielded an intensely aromatic wine with alluring aromas of rose petal, honeysuckle and grapefruit blossom in the forefront, followed by additional layers of peach and subtle oak. On the palate, gorgeous tropical flavors of pineapple and passion fruit add to the rich, lush mouthfeel, with hints of toasty vanilla from aging in French oak barrels accentuating this wine’s depth and richness.
Production
The 2013 harvest was early, even and excellent with a warm dry spring brought an early bud break and created ideal conditions for flowering and fruit set. In the weeks after Labor Day, a moderate heat event followed by a period of perfect weather created a dream scenario for end-of-season ripening. Rain was not a factor, and for the second vintage in a row, the quality of the grapes was exceptional throughout Russian River Valley.
